Project Manager and Skipper –  Angel Community Canal Boat Trust

Salary: in the range £35 to 37.5k | Application deadline: 15th January 2026

About our opportunity

Are you passionate about making a difference in your community?  Do you love the waterways? Do you enjoy engaging with people from all backgrounds and of all ages?

ACCT (‘Angel Boat’), a long-established, award-winning Islington charity, is looking for a dedicated Project Manager and Skipper to lead our iconic canal boat operations on the Regent’s Canal and neighbouring waterways.

You’ll take the helm—literally and figuratively—managing the day-to-day running, maintenance, and community engagement for our two boats: Angel II of Islington (a 72’ residential narrowboat) and Long Tom (a 45’ day narrowboat), supporting adventures for local community groups, including children and isolated groups, the elderly and survivors of domestic abuse.

Your varied and rewarding role will include:

  • Skippering day and residential canal trips for community and private users, inspiring and educating guests about boat handling, local wildlife, and canal history or just giving them a relaxing space to enjoy the canal
  • Day to day maintenance of our two narrowboats to ensure everything runs smoothly
  • Developing creative projects and forming partnerships with user groups, youth organisations, and local communities to reach more people in need
  • Liaising with hirers of Angel II to plan their trips, and responding to enquiries
  • Identifying funding opportunities to keep our charity thriving and assisting in reporting to funders
  • Recruiting, training, and supporting our enthusiastic volunteers to make full use of the opportunities we offer
  • Liaising with our Board of Trustees to report on progress

What you’ll bring:

If you’re passionate about making a difference to people in our community, enjoy engaging with people from all backgrounds and of all ages, are practical and love being hands on, and are organised, this role could be a great fit.

In addition to these personal qualities, we’re looking for the following:

  • Strong experience on inland waterways and boat management (essential)
  • Enhanced DBS check and proven experience working with children and young people
  • Certificate in Community Boat Management (CCBM) qualification (desirable) —but we can help you acquire it!

You’ll be supported by a friendly and dedicated team of trustees and volunteers.

How to apply:

Download the application form from our website (available in Word or as a .pdf) or email giles@acct.org.uk.

Alternatively, email your CV plus a covering letter detailing how you fit the above profile to: giles@acct.org.uk

Interviews will be held week commencing  19th January 2026.
