Working with AgeUK and also with the Alzheimer’s Society, we run trips for some of the most isolated and vulnerable of our elderly local residents. Passengers can enjoy a day out making new friends in the secure and cosy environment of the boat while enjoying the sight of London drifting past. Refreshment taken together, some entertainment and, for those who want to a little activity helping at the locks, is also part of the day.
The connections made during the trip are built on subsequently to extend the sociability of the day into other days, and to enable a matching of skills and interests between the passengers which they can subsequently develop.
Both Islington Council and Camden Giving are currently supporting our work with the elderly and isolated.
