Our Users & Clients

Virtually everyone enjoys a cruise on a canal boat and the fun of helping operate a narrowboat 72 feet long along the canal and through locks and tunnels. And that enjoyment can easily be combined with practical learning, whether curriculum-based or about the environment or about people living and working together.  For schools we offer our GOAL project (in conjunction with the London Canal Museum) see Schools’ Project and on a residential trip we offer our BOATS course, see Summer Residential Project.

Islington residents

Over 90% of The Angel Boat’s users are Islington residents, and most of them are from Islington’s most deprived areas. They come from a wide variety of groups including:

  • school groups
  • under 5’s groups
  • youth clubs and adventure playgroups
  • women’s/girls’ groups
  • ethnic minority and refugee groups
  • organisations for people with learning difficulties
  • scouts and guides
  • psychiatric hostel groups
  • groups from hostels for homeless people and offenders

Nearly a quarter of users have physical or psychiatric disabilities or learning difficulties, just under half are from minority ethnic groups and about 50% are female. About two-thirds are within the 6 to 18 age bracket.

Wide range of users

We actively embrace diversity and provide specially designed programmes and facilities for our users. By means of projects based on and around a canal boat and London’s inland waterways, ACCT provides unique educational, personal development and recreational opportunities of the highest quality to as diverse a range of local people as possible, and particularly children and young people.

We are actively involved in extending access to The Angel Boat to people currently excluded by social disadvantage.
